The motors kept losing sync during slow hovering.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#d0d6e0;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.75;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:16px;\">Naturally, the ESC manufacturer blamed the motors. We asked him to ship one back for testing instead.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#ffffff;font-size:17px;font-weight:600;letter-spacing:-0.2px;line-height:1.4;margin-top:28px;margin-bottom:10px;\">The motor was fine \u2014 the ESC defaults were wrong<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#d0d6e0;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.75;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:16px;\">On our bench, however, the motor checked out: perfect winding balance, clean bearings, consistent inductance across all three phases. In fact, the real problem was that the ESC's default FOC parameters were tuned for 2300KV racing motors, not 600KV industrial ones.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#ffffff;font-size:17px;font-weight:600;letter-spacing:-0.2px;line-height:1.4;margin-top:28px;margin-bottom:10px;\">This mismatch happens more often than it should<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#d0d6e0;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.75;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:16px;\">On one hand, motor manufacturers say their motors work with FOC. On the other, ESC manufacturers claim their controllers work with any BLDC motor. Nevertheless, neither side gives you the data to verify. That gap, in short, is exactly why we ran this test series.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h2 id=\"why-this-matters\" style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#ffffff;font-size:22px;font-weight:600;letter-spacing:-0.3px;line-height:1.35;margin-top:40px;margin-bottom:16px;padding-left:16px;border-left:4px solid #6dc0e3;\">Why FOC Compatibility Isn't Just Marketing Talk<\/h2>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#ffffff;font-size:17px;font-weight:600;letter-spacing:-0.2px;line-height:1.4;margin-top:28px;margin-bottom:10px;\">FOC is harder on the motor than six-step<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#d0d6e0;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.75;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:16px;\">Specifically, a motor that runs perfectly on a basic trapezoidal ESC can confuse a FOC controller. The symptoms are subtle: motors run hotter, lose sync at low RPM, and efficiency gains never materialize.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#d0d6e0;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.75;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:16px;\">In reality, motors don't smoke. Instead, they just underperform in ways that are hard to diagnose without controlled testing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3 style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#ffffff;font-size:17px;font-weight:600;letter-spacing:-0.2px;line-height:1.4;margin-top:28px;margin-bottom:10px;\">Three things, in practice, determine real FOC performance<\/h3>\r\n<p style=\"font-family:'Segoe UI', 'Inter', system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, sans-serif;color:#d0d6e0;font-size:16px;font-weight:400;line-height:1.75;margin-top:0;margin-bottom:16px;\">Specifically: winding balance, magnetic material, and bearing precision. Current ripple stayed under 3% across the entire range.
