Обзор двигателя Pi Thrust 4312-380KV: высокий крутящий момент для дронов, предназначенных для картографирования и съёмки местности
Most motors rated at 380KV tell a similar story on paper. The 4312-380KV tells a different one in the field. We designed this motor with a 13,000g peak thrust and a voltage window stretching from 8S to 12S, specifically for operators who can't afford motor failure 200 meters above a survey grid. We've run this motor on mapping platforms, inspection hexacopters, and heavy-payload octocopters. Here's exactly what we found — and who we built it for.

Why the 4312 Stator Size Matters for Survey and Mapping UAVs
The stator designation tells you everything. Specifically, 43mm diameter means a large winding surface — more copper, lower resistance per turn, and less heat at sustained cruise power. Meanwhile, the 12mm height keeps weight reasonable for the performance on offer. In practice, that combination hits a specific sweet spot: motors that are wide enough to generate serious torque without becoming the heaviest component on the arm.
Survey drones don't sprint. They hover, cruise at 8–12 m/s, and hold altitude for 20–40 minute missions. A motor optimized purely for peak thrust burns hot and wastes battery. In contrast, we tuned the 4312-380KV for efficiency at mid-throttle — roughly 40–65% of maximum — which is exactly where your mapping platform spends most of its time.
The 8S–12S Voltage Window Is a Real Operational Advantage
We've seen operators come from 8S platforms and hesitate at 12S. With the 4312, however, that hesitation disappears — because you can run either. On 8S, the motor spins at approximately 11,300 RPM (no load), pairing well with 13" props for moderate payload missions. Step up to 12S and you get closer to 16,900 RPM, unlocking the full 13,000g thrust potential with the right propeller choice. One motor platform, two battery configurations. That flexibility also simplifies your parts inventory and field maintenance.
Thrust and Power Data: What the Numbers Actually Show
We tested the 4312-380KV on a static thrust stand with a 13×5" carbon fiber propeller at both 8S (29.6V) and 12S (44.4V). We stepped throttle from 10% to 100% in 10% increments, with a 30-second stabilization period at each step. Here's what came out:
12S Performance — 13×5" Carbon Fiber Prop
| Дроссельная заслонка | Тяга (г) | Сила тока (А) | Мощность (Вт) | Эффективность (г/Вт) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20% | 820 | 4.1 | 182 | 4.51 |
| 30% | 1,950 | 9.8 | 435 | 4.48 |
| 40% | 3,400 | 17.2 | 763 | 4.46 |
| 50% | 5,200 | 26.3 | 1,167 | 4.45 |
| 60% | 7,100 | 36.1 | 1,603 | 4.43 |
| 70% | 9,200 | 47.8 | 2,122 | 4.34 |
| 80% | 10,800 | 58.6 | 2,602 | 4.15 |
| 90% | 12,100 | 69.4 | 3,081 | 3.93 |
| 100% | 13,000 | 83.3 | 3,699 | 3.51 |
Two things stand out. First, efficiency holds remarkably flat between 20% and 60% throttle — staying above 4.4 g/W throughout that range. That's the cruise zone for most survey missions. Second, peak efficiency is not at 100% throttle (as most buyers assume). It's at 20–30% throttle. Run your flight plan at moderate throttle and you're extracting maximum endurance from every gram of battery.
How 8S Compares to 12S for This Motor
At 8S, peak thrust drops to around 7,800g with a 13×5" prop — still substantial for quad-motor platforms targeting 15–18 kg MTOW. Efficiency at 50% throttle on 8S sits near 4.2 g/W, slightly below the 12S figure. If your airframe is already 8S, there's no need to rebuild around new batteries — the 4312 performs reliably. However, if you're designing from scratch, 12S is the better long-term choice for this motor: lower current draw at equivalent power, less heat in the wiring, and a wider throttle range before you hit the motor's limits.
Who the 4312-380KV Is Built For
Mapping and Photogrammetry Platforms
This is the primary use case. For example, a four-motor mapping quad using the 4312-380KV at 12S can carry a high-resolution RGB camera, LiDAR module, and full avionics stack while maintaining a 2:1 thrust-to-weight ratio at takeoff — the minimum safe margin for stable, correctable flight. We've seen this configuration achieve 35–42 minute flight times with optimized 22Ah 12S batteries on MTOW of approximately 22 kg.
Inspection UAVs with Dual-Camera Payload
Power line and infrastructure inspection often requires both a zoom camera and a thermal imager — adding 1.2–1.8 kg to a standard configuration. The 4312's sustained power rating at 70% throttle (2,122W, 9,200g per motor) gives hexacopter platforms the reserve thrust to handle wind gusts up to 8–10 m/s without dropping altitude on approach. Notably, one client operating six-motor inspection hexacopters in wind-exposed coastal environments reports zero motor failures across 200+ flight hours.
Aerial Cinematography — Heavy Gimbal Configurations
Similarly, cinema platforms carrying full-frame mirrorless bodies or cinema cameras (BMPCC 6K, Sony FX3) with 3-axis gimbals typically exceed 8 kg payload. The 4312-380KV handles this without the mechanical stress you'd get from running a smaller-stator motor at sustained high throttle. Even better, the low internal resistance of 38 mΩ means the motor runs cooler during extended hover sequences — critical when you're shooting a 20-minute aerial scene.
ESC Pairing Guide for the 4312-380KV
Because the peak current draw reaches 83.3A, you need an ESC rated for continuous 80A or above with appropriate burst headroom. Under-rating your ESC is one of the fastest ways to turn a motor review into a crash report. Here are the configurations we recommend:
| Напряжение | Min. ESC Rating | Recommended ESC | Протокол |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8S | 60A continuous | Hobbywing XRotor 60A | DSHOT300 / PWM |
| 12S | 100A continuous | Hobbywing XRotor Pro 100A | DSHOT300 / PWM |
| 12S (FOC) | 100A, FOC-capable | Aikon AK-32 / VESC-based | FOC (sinusoidal) |
If your application demands FOC (Field-Oriented Control) — for example, when motor noise is a concern or gimbal stabilization requires extremely smooth current delivery — the 4312 pairs well with VESC-based 12S ESCs. See our complete FOC compatibility guide for pole count settings and configuration steps.
4312-380KV vs 4320-350KV: Which One for Your Build?
In fact, this is the comparison we get asked about most. Both motors share the same 43mm stator diameter, but the stator height difference (12mm vs 20mm) creates meaningfully different performance profiles. Here's the direct comparison:
| Характеристики | 4312-380KV | 4320-350KV |
|---|---|---|
| Stator height | 12mm | 20mm |
| Номинальное напряжение | 380 КВ | 350 КВ |
| Максимальная тяга | 13,000g | 12,900g |
| Max power | 3,949W | 3,835W |
| Вес | 232g | 248g |
| Voltage range | 8–12S | 12S |
| Best use | Mapping / Survey / Cinematography | Heavy lift / Security UAV |
Choose the 4312 if you need the 8S flexibility or you're building a platform where motor weight matters (8-motor configurations especially). On the other hand, choose the 4320 if you're committing to 12S and need the slightly deeper stator for sustained heavy-payload operation at higher duty cycles. What's Inside: Build Quality and Materials
NSK Bearings — Not the Generic Alternative
We use NSK bearings because they're the standard Japanese manufacturers use in precision industrial equipment. The difference shows up after 100+ hours: generic bearings develop play that causes vibration, which transmits directly to your camera gimbal or sensor package. NSK bearings maintain tolerance. In a motor running at 15,000+ RPM for 30-minute stretches, that matters — especially if your payload costs more than the drone itself.
Дуговые магниты N52H
N52H is the highest-grade standard neodymium magnet specification with H-class thermal resistance (up to 120°C operating temperature). Arc-shaped magnets fill more of the magnetic circuit than block magnets, which translates to stronger flux density and more torque per amp. Furthermore, we source them from the same suppliers used in EV motor applications — not generic magnet distributors.
220 °C — проволока для намотки
Standard copper winding wire carries a 155°C rating. Ours carries a 220 °C rating — the same grade used in industrial servo motors. This isn't a marketing claim; it's the thermal margin that separates a motor that survives a full-throttle climb on a 40°C summer day from one that degrades winding insulation after 50 flight cycles.
Часто задаваемые вопросы
What is the maximum MTOW for a 4-motor quad using the 4312-380KV at 12S?
With four motors producing up to 52 kg of total static thrust, a safe operating MTOW at 2:1 thrust ratio comes out to approximately 22–24 kg. That typically covers the airframe (4–5 kg), battery (5–6 kg), and a 6–8 kg payload. For missions where you push closer to MTOW, we recommend running at 12S rather than 8S to maintain adequate thrust reserve.
Is the 4312-380KV compatible with ArduPilot and PX4 flight controllers?
Yes. The motor is a standard three-phase brushless motor — the ESC determines compatibility, not the motor itself. Any ArduPilot or PX4 stack paired with a 12S-rated ESC (Hobbywing XRotor, Aikon, or similar) will drive the 4312 without configuration changes. Standard PWM, DSHOT, and CAN bus protocols all work.
Can I use 15-inch propellers instead of 13-inch?
We don't recommend it at 12S. A 15" prop on a 380KV motor at 12S would spin at roughly 14,100 RPM — significantly exceeding the aerodynamic efficiency range and creating excessive torque loads on the stator. We optimized the 4312 for 13×5" propellers. If you need 15" propeller performance, consider the 5315-420KV instead.
How does the 4312 hold up in high-humidity or coastal environments?
We hard-anodize the aluminum housing and apply a moisture-resistant lacquer coating to the stator windings during manufacturing. We've had clients run these motors in South China Sea coastal inspection work with good long-term results. That said, we recommend rinsing the motor housing with fresh water after saltwater-adjacent operations and inspecting bearings every 80–100 flight hours in high-humidity deployments.
What customization options are available for the 4312-380KV?
We offer KV adjustment (we can wind to 300KV, 350KV, or 420KV on the same 4312 stator), custom anodized color matching, and laser-engraved logo branding. Minimum order for custom KV is 50 units; color and logo customization starts at 20 units. Lead time is 7 business days for standard orders, 14 days for custom winding configurations. Contact us to discuss your build requirements.
How does the 4312-380KV compare to other motors in the Pi Thrust lineup?
The 4312 is the highest peak-power motor in the Pi Thrust range with multi-voltage flexibility. The full 7-motor comparison guide covers all specifications side by side. For agricultural applications specifically, the 5315-420KV fits better due to its wider prop diameter tolerance. For compact mapping quads prioritizing weight, however, the 4315-600KV at 8S is worth evaluating.
